About the Author

Taha Chaiechi

Associate Professor, Dr Taha Chaiechi (BSc, MSc, PhD) is a distinguished economist, educator, and research leader with a strong interdisciplinary focus on cost-benefit analysis, sustainable development, and public policy. She currently serves as the Head of the Centre for International Trade and Business in Asia (CITBA) at James Cook University, Australia, where she leads major initiatives in research strategy, curriculum innovation, and international collaboration.

Over the past 15 years, Dr Chaiechi has established herself as a strategic academic leader with a passion for applied research that drives impact. Her portfolio includes over $1.4 million in successfully delivered research and consultancy projects spanning climate resilience, natural capital valuation, regional development, and inclusive economic growth. Her signature strength lies in modelling dynamic interdependencies between economic, social, and environmental systems—always anchored in real-world decision-making frameworks.

She has delivered high-level economic advisory and cost-benefit analysis training for a range of government, international, and development-focused organisations. In addition to training, she provides extensive research consultancy in this field to regional and Indigenous corporations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and local governments. Her work in valuing nature and designing evidence-based investment frameworks has informed public policy and strategic planning across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

In addition to her leadership roles, Taha is the Founding Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Resilient Economies, Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of Applied Economics, and a detailed assessor for the Australian Research Council. She is also an invited speaker, curriculum innovator, and published author across several academic and professional platforms.

This book reflects Dr Chaiechi’s deep expertise in economic evaluation, translating complex theory into practical tools for policymakers, analysts, and community leaders who seek to make decisions that are financially sound, socially equitable, and environmentally responsible.
