Be able to:
- outline the pathophysiology of epilepsy, and describe the seizure types associated with different forms of epilepsy (NEURO review)
- identify the various potential neuronal cellular drug targets for antiepileptic therapy
- name the major antiepileptic drugs used in Australia and describe their indications, mechanisms of action, common adverse effects and interactions
- outline the symptoms, prevalence and pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease
- explain the mechanisms of action of the different classes of drugs used in the treatment of PD and AD, including the role of adjuvant drugs in PD
- outline the proposed pathophysiology of migraine and relate to the symptoms of this disorder
- describe the mechanism of action of triptans and CGRP antagonists in the treatment of migraine.
