What should be included in the METHODS of a narrative review?
- Databases β at least two databases (peer reviewed literature) β have you used grey literature?
- Handsearching is a critical part of the review to find materials not found through traditional searches. It is a manual process to examine and identify further relevant studies and includes, perusing the pages of key journals, conferences and other sources and checking reference lists of identified articles, usually review and documents.
- Search Terms
- Exclusion criteria e.g., if one of your search terms is pharmacist and you only want papers related to community pharmacists β exclusion would be hospital pharmacists. Why would you not just put community pharmacist as a term β depends on what community pharmacists are referred to in other countries. Other exclusion criteria can be articles before 2014 and not in English.
- Last sentence of the method should be how many articles are included in this narrative review.
