Book Title: Student Placement on Waibene (Thursday Island)
Book Description: This resource has been developed to assist health care students in preparing for their placement on Thursday Island (traditionally known as Waibene). The freely available guide provides students with a comprehensive overview of information to help navigate both the professional and practical elements of placement, including insights into the local culture and community, guidance on daily living and social opportunities, and tips for managing the unique challenges of working in a remote setting.
The materials presented in this open education resource have been developed through the hard work and dedication of a small group of final year occupational therapy students at James Cook University, Australia. As a part of their professional honours major, the student authors set out to create a dynamic, engaging and informative learning resource that is relevant to other JCU students. The freely available resource is designed to offer an overview of placement information and has been developed under expert academic supervision.
